About Phil Elsasser
Phil is a recent graduate from Western Washington University and a Bellingham resident. He is a category 1 road cyclist who is currently riding for Hagens Berman Elite Cycling Team based out of Seattle and hopes to join the pro ranks within the next couple of years. He has traveled to many of the biggest races across the US and is the current DII Collegiate National Criterium Champion. For the last four years he raced for the WWU Cycling team and was the president of the team in 2008. He has developed many new riders on that team and really enjoys getting people involved in the sport at any level. Mainly, just seeing people going faster than they could before is what he really enjoys. He currently works at Fairhaven Fitness as a personal trainer when he isn’t racing or training. In addition to his personal training certification through IFA he is also a Level 3 certified cycling coach through USA Cycling.
About Brian Ecker
Brian is a long time resident of Bellingham, WA and a graduate of Western Washington University with a BS in Human Biology. Brian first began racing in his high school years and has never really stopped since. Brian has race experiences in a variety of disciplines: road, mountain, track, cyclecross, and ultramarthon as well as multisport and running. Some of Brian’s career highlights include top 20 finishes at USCF Elite National Championships, Top 5 finishes at the Duathalon National Championships (both as a amateur and a pro), several big multisport solo category wins (Mountains to Sound and Bellingham Traverse), and most recently a podium finish at the Furnace Creek 508 Ultra marathon cycling race.
Brian began coaching almost as soon as he started racing. Brian is a USCF Level 2 certified coach. For the past 12 years Brian has worked successfully with many types of athletes (road racers, track cycling, Ironman Triathletes, and Cyclecross racers) and almost every age group including juniors and masters. Brian has coached athletes to numerous personal bests, state, and national championships as well participation at the World Championship level.
You can expect Brian to be a patient and understanding coach that will work closely with you to personalize a program that helps you attain your goals. Creating a strong relationship with his clients is the key to his success. Brian values and understands each person’s level of commitment and works individually with each client to help them meet their goals within the realities of their everyday life. So much of success depends not on ability level but in doing the best with what you have.
